Haneda Airport’s new international terminal Oct. 21 opening

October 9th, 2010

The new international terminal of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport has been shown to the press prior to its opening on Oct. 21.

The five-story structure with a floor space of approximately 154,000 square meters, or three times the area of Tokyo Dome, houses roughly 100 shops.

It has both a zone recreating a town in the Edo Period and an area where anime character merchandise shops are situated, allowing air travelers as well as visitors to experience both modern and traditional Japanese culture.

Many shops in the international terminal will be open round the clock as some international flights arrive or leave late at night and early in the morning.

A huge painting that Japanese artist Hiroshi Senju drew in the motif of a waterfall is displayed at the arrival gate.
